As promised, my beautiful, tiny alpine strawberry plant and basil plant ... thank you all for your advice for these two. I'm hoping for some netting to keep the birds out off Freecycle ... because of course we planted the strawberry plant right next to two bird feeders. Smart, huh?

That would work well at our house since the squirrels are the primary users of our bird feeders.
Ooh, I'm particularly interested in the strawberry plant. I hope it makes lots of nice fruit for you.
Good luck with your strawberries. Ours bore much more fruit in their second year than their first - which I think is pretty normal. Oh, and the birds don't bother ours. Wish I could say the same for the slugs.
Keep an eye open for your plants if you really want to try a few berries. Otherwise, lovely hungry birds will eat them with a great pleasure.:)
